ALL NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS ARE

“NOT” CREATED EQUAL — PLEASE READ

As a physician who is concerned with the well being of my patients,
I recommend supplements to my patients based on quality manufacturing
and clinical effectiveness.

Less expensive supplements may come at a very high cost
Cheap supplements may cause harm and not work. Here’s why:

* NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENT MANUFACTURING IN THE U.S. IS UNREGULATED.
The majority of supplement manufacturers are never inspected nor regulated by any branch of the state or federal government to ensure production of safe, quality products.

* THERE IS LITTLE OR NO GOVERNMENT OVERSIGHT TO ENSURE PRODUCT QUALITY. No oversight or regulation means that many suppliers maximize profits by scrimping on quality assurance. This practice is industry wide. Many supplements are of poor quality.

* NUTRITIONAL SUPPLEMENTS ARE FREQUENTLY CONTAMINATED.
Materials used to make supplements can be contaminated with lead, mercury, pesticides, chemicals, toxins, bacteria and mold. Unregulated manufacturers never test for these. Companies we carry do.

* CONTAMINATED SUPPLEMENTS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS HARM.
If your supplements are contaminated with lead, mercury, pesticides, chemicals, toxins, bacteria or mold they may cause sickness and poor health. Harm may be immediately apparent, or may appear over time, or with long term use. Hurting yourself or damaging some organ system is not worth a cheap price.

* LOW POTENCY SUPPLEMENTS DO NOT MEET LABEL CLAIM.
Without consistent raw material and finished product testing (which most companies do not do) you never know if what you are taking is low potency. The best companies test every batch of raw materials and finished product to ensure label claim potency.

* LOW POTENCY SUPPLEMENTS DO NOT WORK.
If the label says 500mg and the product only contains 360mg it may not work to improve your health.

* HIGH POTENCY SUPPLEMENTS MAY CAUSE HARM.
Without consistent raw material and finished product testing (which most companies do not do) you never know if the supplement you are taking is super potent. If the label says 500mg and the product really contains 760mg it may cause harm over time. Several common supplements are toxic at high amounts.

The very best supplement manufacturers:

* Perform comprehensive quality assurance testing on every batch of raw material and finished product. This consistent high level of testing ensures quality, potency and safety. Supplement manufacturers are not required to do any testing or verification.

* Are voluntarily regulated by the NSF & NNFA to ensure high quality & safe products. This means they are GMP certified.

* Are inspected every 6 months to verify production of high quality & safe products.

My commitment to you

I have gone so far as to audit over 30 supplement companies as to their manufacturing details. Most companies will not share the information I request which leads me to believe they produce sub-standard products. Some information I obtained from a popular and well-respected company caused me to dispose of several hundred dollars worth of inventory. Would you like to know the truth about just how pure your supplement(s) of choice are? Send me $30.00 and contact information for your company of choice, and I will personally audit and research that company and provide you with an analysis.

If you are making the financial and personal commitment to take
nutritional supplements, make sure you are spending those dollars wisely
and with confidence.

How Do You Know What’s Really in Your Supplement?

BLACK COHOSH SUPPLEMENTS WITH NO BLACK COHOSH INCLUDED

According to a report in Medical News Today, Edward Kennelly, PhD, who headed the black cohosh study stated, “‘The manufacturers are required to follow good manufacturing practices, so this misbranding should not occur. Unfortunately, our study shows that at least in the case of black cohosh, many manufacturers are not following the regulations. Consumers should be aware of this situation in order to make proper choices for their health care.’”

MILK THISTLE CONTAMINATED WITH AFLATOXINS
I tested several products from Europe, China, and the United States. All of them had very high levels of at least 2 solvents due to the fact that the suppliers didn’t take the extra steps needed to get rid of most or all of the solvent residue after the silymarin was extracted. It is my contention that most Milk Thistle Seed Extract 80% on the market today is contaminated with high levels of solvent residue.

GINKGO PRODUCTS CONTAMINATED WITH LEAD
In December 2005 ConsumerLab.com (CL) published results of its Ginkgo biloba extract testing. Of 13 ginkgo products that CL selected for testing, only 6 passed. Poor ingredient quality and lead contamination were common problems.

CHONDROITIN SULFATE TESTINg –Don’t meet label claims
Assay results were provided from 5 chondroitin sulfate products that came from 5 popular professional-products companies. Each flunked independent potency assays that used a methodology
accepted by the United States Pharmacopoeia (USP).
Potency results ranged from 14.6% to 85% of label claims.

Supplements not what’s on the label

Consumer Lab assay information over the past several months shows that 70% of herbal sleep supplements fail tests for quality; 50% of ginseng supplements are subpotent or contaminated; 15% of prostate supplements fail testing for a variety of reasons (eg, subpotency, short on specific fatty acids known to be in saw-palmetto extract, etc.); several green-tea products are contaminated with lead or are subpotent; and 1 DHEA product was superpotent, which can lead to overdosing. Consumer Lab tests only a small number of products, so it is likely that numerous subpotent or contaminated products are on the market.

The L.A. Times front-page story on St. John's Wort
Independent laboratory tests commissioned by The Times raise questions about whether consumers are getting what they pay for. Three of the 10 brands of St. John's wort tested--including a brand from the nation's leading supplement distributor--had no more than about half the potency listed on the label. Four more had less than 90% of the indicated potency, according to the laboratory.
